Know where your coffee comes from

Kevote Wet Mill is located in Embu County on the slopes of Mount Kenya, northeast of Nairobi. The region’s high elevation, two rainy seasons, and rich soil nourished by six rivers make it ideal for coffee cultivation. Around 80% of local households work in agriculture, and thousands of small producers grow coffee, delivering it to hundreds of cooperatives for processing.

Founded in 1957, Kevote Wet Mill now supports nearly 2,600 small-holder farmers in the area. In recent years, it has expanded to operate three facilities across different towns to better assist farmers throughout Embu. A democratically elected, five-member board oversees the organization, with members selected to represent the community’s interests.

Farmers hand-pick ripe cherries and deliver them to the mill, where the coffee is sorted and cleaned in fresh water from a nearby tributary. Processing follows the traditional Kenyan method, with double-washing and drying on raised beds to enhance the coffee’s unique flavor and quality.

How it's roasted
At OR, the Kenyan coffees are consistently stable but can sometimes feel predictable when it comes to roasting. This is largely due to sourcing AA or AB coffees—labels that refer to the screen size of the beans—which ensures uniformity during roasting. Additionally, these coffees exhibit a beautiful and even first crack, after which they are promptly dropped from the roaster.
